Alcalá de Chivert
Alcalà de Xivert is a municipality in Castellón province, within the Valencian Community, and part of the Baix Maestrat region. Its location between the traditional inland area and close proximity to the Mediterranean coast has shaped its development as a stable residential town, largely unaffected by intense seasonal tourism.
With a population of around 6,700 inhabitants, the municipality retains a balanced scale that supports quality of life, environmental preservation and well-structured urban planning. This approach has helped maintain its historical heritage and authentic character, adding long-term residential and cultural value.
Between the 13th and 18th centuries, the town was known as Alcalá or Alcalá de Xivert, during a period when Xivert served as the main centre of the territorial command. The later consolidation of Alcalà as the administrative centre explains its current layout and historical significance within the Baix Maestrat.
