Alicante
Alicante is a Spanish city located on the Mediterranean coast, in the province of the same name, in the autonomous community of Valencia. With a population of around 334,000, Alicante is the second largest city in the Valencian Community, after Valencia.
The city boasts white-sand beaches and beautiful ocean views, making it a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months. San Juan beach is one of the most popular, famous for its fine sand and crystal clear water.
Alicante also has an old town steeped in history, with buildings and monuments dating back to medieval times. The Castle of Santa Bárbara, located on top of Mount Benacantil, is an emblematic place in the city with impressive views of the Mediterranean coast.
The city is known for its gastronomy, with typical dishes such as paella, arroz a banda, stuffed squid, anchovies, red prawns and nougat. It is also famous for its wines, such as Monastrell red wine and Moscatel white wine.
